Dravid's selection for Champion's Trophy

Dravid's selection in Indian Cricket ODI squad for Champions' Trophy is a good news for Dravid Fans. But some questions have been raised on his selection e.g. isn't it a regressive step or doesn't this show lack of confidence in the team that has won so many ODIs in the last months or is it because of a South Indian Chief Selector for the team. etc...

Rahul Dravid is a great player in all the formats of the game. Yes,even in T20 as demonstrated in recently concluded IPL I can see few people shaking their heads and saying it hurts India's chances to build a young team. But let's consider Indian Team's recent performances. Apart from the dismal performance in T20 World Cup, where the Indian batsmen's vulnerability against risisng balls was exposed, the recently concluded ODI series in WI (which by the way India won) also showed how the Indian Team struggled to bat the entire 50 overs.

We have a very young team, with enthusiastic players and most of them love to play their shots, which is great.. but there's something called class, experience to modify your game according to the circumstances and deliver whenever required. A team which scores 300+ in one match and suddenly collapses in the very next match on the same pitch and same bowling attack , shows a lack of commitment, application and ability to learn from mistakes.

Rahul's inclusion in the squad will give stability to Indian Middle Order and take off pressure from big hitters like Yuvraj, Dhoni, Yusuf Pathan... It will easier for them to play thier natural game.So far from being a regressive move, it will help in making a team with a balanced approach for all forms of the game.Agreed thay had a fantastic season last year, but a little bit of experience, comitment and balance that Dravid will bring to the team will definitely make the team much more efficient. It will help in getting rid of the vulnerabilities being seen now..This will boost the confidence of the team.

As far as the cynicism is concerned, Dravid's record speaks for itself. Any such suggestion smacks of criticism for the sake of it and renders the critique uncreditable.

So, let's hope for a better show by Indian Team in the Champions' Trophy.

All the Best to our Men in Blue !!!!!!!!!!
